Mylar Blanket Saves a Father and Son Stuck On Side of Steep Cliff in Utah

Mylar Blanket Saves a Father and Son Stuck On the Side of Steep Cliff in Utah!

A father and his 12-year-old son were rescued by helicopter from a steep cliffside in Utah’s Snow Canyon State Park on Feb. 17, as shown in a video released by the state’s Department of Public Safety. When you hear a story like this, try to put yourself in their shoes and imagine yourself in this situation.

The ordeal began last Monday when the pair became disoriented while hiking in the park and lost their way as darkness fell, the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) said.

It is only by a pure stroke of luck that the hikers happened to stumble upon a backpack left behind by a previous rescue victim in the same area. Inside the bag were vital survival supplies – food, water and an emergency mylar blanket – and without these items, they may not have made it through the cold frigid night.

Search and rescue teams with Washington County Sheriff Search & Rescue worked through the night, and into the early morning hours, the helicopter crew located two stranded on a shallow ledge and hoisted them to safety
,” authorities said.

As the rescue helicopter arrived at the scene, thermal imaging showed the father and son frantically waving and pleading for rescue. The video then shows the precision of the rescue as the pair are safely hoisted into the helicopter.

Seriously, for only a couple bucks, having an emergency mylar blanket in your pack can truly be a lifesaver allowing you to stay warm when the temperature drops overnight.
