SIG SAUER M17X 9mm Pistol with ROMEO-M17 Optic

The SIG SAUER M17X brings XSeries ergonomics and a factory-installed enclosed optic to the full-size M17 platform. This exact configuration, manufacturer part number M17X-9-RX, is chambered in 9mm Luger and pairs a 4.7-inch barrel with the ROMEO-M17 red-dot sight, SIGLITE front and rear sights, a coyote-finished slide, and a coyote XSeries grip module. Three 21-round steel magazines are included.

Exact M17X configuration

This model is the optic-equipped, no-manual-safety M17X identified by UPC 798681681150. It should not be confused with a standard M17, a lower-capacity model, or a pistol sold without the ROMEO-M17. The factory configuration combines a full-size slide and barrel with a carry-size XSeries grip module, an extended magazine well, and high-capacity steel magazines. That specific mix gives the pistol the M17 family’s full-length upper assembly while adding XSeries grip geometry and a complete factory sighting package.

Factory-mounted ROMEO-M17 optic

The ROMEO-M17 is installed at the factory rather than added as a separate accessory. Its ruggedized aluminum housing surrounds an enclosed, sealed optical system that helps protect the emitter from dust, moisture, and debris. An aspheric glass lens is designed to provide a clear sight picture with minimal visual distortion. The optic interfaces with the slide through SIG SAUER’s SIG-LOC mounting system for the M17/M18 MHS family, while the SIGLITE front and rear sights remain available as durable backup sights.

This integrated arrangement gives the pistol a ready-to-use sighting system out of the box. It also avoids the uncertainty of selecting a separate plate or matching an aftermarket optic to the slide. The combination is particularly well suited to shooters who want to train with both an electronic sight and conventional iron sights on the same full-size pistol.

XSeries control and handling

The coyote XSeries polymer grip module uses an extended beavertail, pronounced grip texture, and deeper undercuts to support a secure, repeatable firing grip. A factory magwell extension helps guide magazines during reloads, and the M1913 accessory rail provides mounting space for a compatible light or other rail-mounted accessory. The full-size proportions provide a substantial gripping surface while preserving the modular architecture associated with the P320 family.

An XSeries flat-blade trigger provides a straight, consistent contact surface. The pistol is striker fired and uses a stainless-steel fire-control unit. This particular M17X configuration does not have a manual safety, so users should follow the owner’s manual, keep the trigger protected, and use a properly fitted holster whenever the pistol is stored or carried.

Full-size 9mm configuration

The 4.7-inch carbon-steel barrel is paired with a stainless-steel slide finished in coyote PVD. The barrel is not threaded. With a magazine inserted, SIG SAUER lists the pistol at 33 ounces. Overall dimensions are approximately 8 inches long, 1.6 inches wide, and 6.3 inches high, with a 6.6-inch sight radius. These specifications place the M17X squarely in the full-size category and give it the size and sighting equipment expected for structured range practice, training, and duty-style handling drills.

Setup and ownership notes

Before initial use, read the SIG SAUER owner’s manual and the ROMEO-M17 instructions, confirm the pistol is unloaded, and become familiar with the controls and sighting system in a safe environment. A factory-mounted optic still needs its zero confirmed with the ammunition and shooting distance the owner intends to use. Routine inspection, cleaning, and lubrication should follow the manufacturer’s guidance. Because this model has no manual safety, secure storage, trigger protection, and disciplined handling are especially important whenever the pistol is not actively being used on an authorized range.
