Description

SIG SAUER SIERRA3BDX 3.5-10x42mm Riflescope

The SIG SAUER SIERRA3BDX 3.5-10x42mm is a versatile hunting riflescope that combines traditional magnified optics with the Ballistic Data Xchange system. Its 3.5-10x magnification range covers common woodland, field, and open-country applications, while the 42mm objective balances light collection with a manageable mounting profile. The black aluminum housing, 30mm main tube, and second-focal-plane BDX-R1 digital ballistic reticle provide a familiar foundation for users who want optional electronic ballistic assistance.

Used as a conventional riflescope, the SIERRA3BDX offers an illuminated aiming system, 1/4 MOA adjustments, and standard magnification control. Its additional capability becomes available when it is paired with a compatible SIG SAUER KILO BDX rangefinder and configured through the SIG BDX application. Range, ballistic data, and environmental inputs can then be transmitted to the scope so an illuminated holdover point appears at the calculated aiming location.

Ballistic Data Xchange System

BDX is designed to simplify the process between ranging a target and applying an elevation correction. A compatible KILO BDX rangefinder measures the distance and sends the information to the scope through Bluetooth connectivity. The SIERRA3BDX’s digital focal-plane display illuminates the appropriate holdover point inside the reticle, allowing the user to hold directly at the indicated location rather than count turret clicks or estimate a manual hold.

The BDX-R1 system combines conventional second-focal-plane stadia with a digital OLED ballistic holdover display. The digital aiming point automatically scales as magnification changes, helping it maintain the correct relationship to the target throughout the scope’s zoom range. The scope can still be sighted and used without a connected rangefinder, making the electronic features an added capability rather than the only way to operate the optic.

Hunting-Oriented Digital Features

KinETHIC technology can indicate when calculated energy at the target falls below a user-defined threshold configured in the BDX application. This feature is intended as an informational aid for hunters evaluating a shot within their chosen cartridge and projectile parameters. Auto LevelPlex provides a digital cant reference and automatically increases sensitivity for longer-distance solutions, helping the shooter identify rifle cant that could affect impact placement.

MOTAC motion-activated illumination powers the electronic aiming system when motion is detected and shuts it down during inactivity to help preserve the CR2032 battery. Ten daylight illumination settings allow the display to be adjusted for changing ambient conditions. As with any ballistic calculator, useful results depend on correct ammunition data, muzzle velocity, zero distance, atmospheric inputs, and confirmed real-world performance.

Optical and Mechanical Construction

The 42mm objective and SpectraCoat antireflection lens treatment are designed to promote light transmission and reduce surface reflections across the visible spectrum. Eye relief ranges from approximately 4.21 inches at low magnification to 3.46 inches at high magnification. Field of view measures approximately 27.8 feet at 100 yards on 3.5x and 9.4 feet at 100 yards on 10x.

The scope provides 55 MOA of total elevation travel and 55 MOA of total windage travel, with 20 MOA of adjustment per turret rotation. It measures approximately 12.8 inches long and weighs about 20.9 ounces. The housing is nitrogen purged for fog-resistant performance and carries an IPX7 waterproof rating for immersion up to one meter. A mount is not included, so the user must select compatible 30mm rings appropriate for the rifle and base.

Setup and Field Use

Install the scope in quality 30mm rings, set eye relief for the shooting position, level the reticle, and torque all fasteners according to the ring and firearm manufacturers’ specifications. Establish and confirm a conventional zero before relying on a BDX solution. Enter exact ammunition and rifle data, then validate calculated holds at known distances on a safe range. The SIERRA3BDX is most useful when its digital tools support—not replace—sound marksmanship, confirmed ballistic data, and responsible target identification.
