SIG SAUER Marksman Hunter .243 Winchester 85-Grain Ammo

SIG SAUER Marksman Hunter .243 Winchester 85 Grain

SIG SAUER Marksman Hunter ammunition combines a carefully loaded .243 Winchester cartridge with an 85-grain Sierra GameKing projectile. This listing is for manufacturer part number E243GK8520, UPC 798681704330, with 20 rounds per box. It is intended for hunters and rifle shooters who want a streamlined, accurate load in the versatile .243 Winchester chambering.

The Sierra GameKing bullet uses a boat-tail hollow-point profile. Its tapered rear section is designed to reduce aerodynamic drag, helping the projectile maintain velocity and resist wind drift over distance. The hollow-point nose and jacket design support dependable expansion, while the 85-grain weight keeps the load responsive and well suited to the flat-shooting character for which .243 Winchester rifles are known.

Marksman Hunter Bullet Design

SIG SAUER builds the Marksman Hunter line around Sierra GameKing projectiles and precision-loading practices. The projectile’s thick jacket provides durability for field use, while a skived nose helps expansion begin consistently on impact. This combination focuses on accuracy and controlled hunting performance rather than a general-purpose full-metal-jacket design.

The published velocity for this exact 85-grain load is 3,200 feet per second. That figure is a factory reference, not a guarantee for every rifle. Barrel length, chamber dimensions, temperature, elevation, and ammunition lot can all affect measured velocity and trajectory. Confirm zero and point of impact in the rifle that will be carried, especially if the ammunition is replacing a different bullet weight or load.

Practical Use and Rifle Compatibility

This ammunition is made for rifles chambered in .243 Winchester. Use it only in a firearm marked for that exact cartridge and maintained in sound operating condition. The 85-grain GameKing projectile is positioned for medium-game hunting where legal, while its aerodynamic profile also supports deliberate shooting at extended field distances. Shooters remain responsible for choosing an ethical distance based on their demonstrated skill, the rifle’s verified accuracy, environmental conditions, and applicable game laws.

Before hunting, fire enough rounds from a stable position to establish reliable function, group size, and point of impact. Check that cartridges feed and extract normally, then verify zero at the distance appropriate for the intended use. If a ballistic calculator is used, supply actual rifle velocity when possible and confirm predicted drops on a suitable range instead of relying only on published data.

Storage and Handling

Keep the cartridges in their original labeled box so the caliber, bullet weight, lot information, and manufacturer details remain easy to identify. Store ammunition in a cool, dry place away from moisture, oils, solvents, excessive heat, and unauthorized access. Inspect cartridges before loading and do not use any round that appears damaged, corroded, or otherwise questionable.
